Orbe - floor lamp
Capoeira, intrinsic to Brazilian culture, represents much more than just dance and music. It was an act of freedom, resistance, and revolution in the slave quarters of 16th-century colonial Brazil, and a pure expression of our African origins, constituting what we call "brasilidade."
Guided by this concept, its creative process has at its core the blending of senses and the quest for true Brazilian identity. Thus, in composing the volumetric elements of the pieces, the symbolism of capoeira was used as a reference.
The materials and forms seek to stimulate the senses through textures, sounds, and visual sensations. It is the musicality of Brazilian dance, of capoeira, that is present in the forms, with each piece having a unique reference to this cultural and identity manifestation.
The Orbe floor lamp was designed in gourd and Brazilian Roxinho wood, drawing references from musical instruments such as the Agogo, Reco-reco, and Berimbau. The agogo is present in the domes that encase the bulb, while the reco-reco and berimbau are present in the structure of the piece. The observer here should not be a mere spectator, but rather a user of the musical lamp, able to produce sounds by sliding a solid object on the lamp's horizontal cylindrical base to create a sound similar to that of the reco-reco.
